Getting Married? Five things to think about before you plan your wedding!

Hello

I've been engaged for the past four years and just wasn't ready to get married yet. There was a lot we wanted to do before spending a lot of money on our Wedding. However, we decided way over a year ago that in 2021, we would get married.

Nothing prepared me for the amount of things I would need to do in the run up to the big day. There's a lot to think about when you get married. Dress, Cake, Car . . .  it can be totally overwhelming. At the start of the process, we sat down and processed what it is that we wanted. Here are five things that have helped me at the beginning of my wedding planning process.

1. BUDGET

This is so important. You can have a lovely wedding but on a smaller scale without having to spend loads. I've joined lots of Brides on a Budget group on Facebook to see where they've got all their favours, table decorations etc. Don't go booking a venue that's 15,000 if you've only got the budget of 10,000! Weddings don't always have to be about spending lots of money!! You can still have an amazing day without spending lots of money! A lot of companies will double the price if they hear the word wedding when you are inquiring about things. Plus there are a lot of things you can do yourself!

2. GUEST LIST

Its your day so invite who you want too. They'll be lots of people that come into mind- your best friend from school, your aunty that you've not spoken to in years - its your day, invite the people you want to and who will make your day special. There's no point in inviting people you haven't spoken too in the last year or someone your fiancé doesn't know. Also this will help you narrow down how many people will attend all day as well as the extra evening guests! Plus sometimes your venue will only allow you to have a certain amount of guests! Only think of people you couldn't say I do without.

3. SHOP AROUND

Many people will tell you to book with them quick because they book up quickly. Sometimes this is the case but most of the time, they do that so you'll pay their fee without looking around first. Its okay to take your time when choosing who you want to make your cake or who you have as your florist. Its okay to go away and think about your options before you decide on who you have for your big day. Its such an important day that you want everything to be perfect. Its okay to take time in making your decisions.

4. THEME

What colour/s are you having? Are you having a summer wedding? Are you having a barn? Is it going to be rustic? So many questions! Its so important to have some kind of idea on a theme or colour scheme for your big day. For example, a winter wedding could have different shades of blue and you'll have everything blue and white to resemble snow and frost, giving it that winter vibe. This will help when you plan suits, flowers  table decorations, bridesmaid dresses etc... having an idea early on will help you plan the rest of the wedding.

5. WEDDING PARTY

Choosing your wedding party is so important. Its the people you want standing next to you when you say I do. The people who you can give jobs to or help you when you are freaking out about bridesmaid dresses! Choosing the people you want around you on your big day is important! They'll be the people who will see you when your stressed and when you are happy, crying their tears away as you find the dress!

Planning a wedding can be tricky and stressful! But at the same time, its exciting taking the next step in life. These five things really helped me at the very start when we decided to take the plunge to actually get married. Hope these tips help and congratulations on getting engaged 💍
