Poole

I have lovely memories of Dorset as a child and so I decided to take a trip down memory lane. My Grandparents would often take me to Poole during the summer holidays and it was somewhere I never forgot as I grew up.

I can't drive, so to get to Poole, I took the train. It's a long journey and a quick change over at Southampton to get the train to Poole. It's usually a quick run from the train arriving at the station to the one leaving!

There are many shops and is a good place for shopping, if you needed to grab some bits and bobs or fancy a shopping trip. I remember visiting the shopping centre as a child and it hadn't really changed a lot. You can walk to the Harbour/Quay from the town and you leave modern Poole and enter historic Poole. The Quay hadn't changed at all and it is exactly how I remembered it. On the Quay you can take a boat and tour the islands of Poole. This was something I did as a child and something I wanted very much to repeat. This is something I highly recommend and look out for the house on one of the islands!

I had a tour of Poole, showing me all the historic sights of Poole as well as the views. There are some amazing views. The view of the harbour from the hills of Liliput are beautiful. You can see the five islands in the background and many boats in the harbour, bobbing on the sea. I did learn a fact about Poole, did you know the children's tale 'Gullivers travels' was written in Poole hence the use of the name Liliput in the story. Its a little village in Poole! Poole is the perfect place for a weekend break.

I had a little trip down memory lane and I recommend taking a trip to Poole.
